At 45, I Know Exactly What I Want
Updated: Jul 6
Some dreams follow you quietly for years. They do not demand attention or create urgency. They simply wait — patient and persistent — until the moment arrives when you can finally hear them.
For me, that dream has always been the same: to live and work internationally. Not to visit, not to travel for work occasionally, but to truly be somewhere else: to wake up in a different country, work in a different context, and bring everything I have built into a wider world.

I have circled this dream my whole professional life. I lived in the United States as a seventeen-year-old exchange student. I have lived in Sweden and Norway. I speak English at native level, Swedish with confidence, and I am reviving my French and German. Every time I have lived abroad, something in me has recognised: this is where I come alive.
And yet, for years, life arranged itself differently. A relationship. A home in the Finnish countryside. A future built around shared plans and one place. Good reasons to stay — and I stayed.
When that chapter ended, something shifted. It was complete clarity.
For the first time, I looked at my life without the lens of someone else's needs or shared plans. And what I saw was simple: I am free. Free to finally do the thing I have always wanted to do.
I am 45. I have 25 years of experience in communication, media, and leadership. I have no ties keeping me in one place. And I have a dream that has been waiting long enough.
New chapters do not have age limits. They have courage limits.
I am ready.
